All topics of the first two years must be revised, with detailed definitions. Merits and faults of vocalists and instrumentalists, and definitions of anulom-vilom, meend, gamak, soot, ghaseet, jamjama, murki and chhoot. Practical · क्रियात्मक
Swar Knowledge (Notes) · स्वरज्ञान
Accurate recognition of shuddha and vikrit swar. Identifying notes within shuddha, vikrit and mixed swar groups, and singing or playing written swar groups. Practice of producing kan, khatka and murki with the voice or instrument. Use of meend and gamak in aalap, and the ability to sing or play alankars and apply them in raag elaboration.
Raag Knowledge · रागज्ञान
In Bhupali, Kalyan (Yaman), Bageshri and Bihag: one vilambit and one drut khayal, or one masitkhani and one razakhani gat, with the ability to elaborate for ten minutes in the gayaki ang with raag vistar, aalap and taan or tode. In the remaining raags: one madhya laya bandish or gat with seven minutes of aalap, taan or tode. A complete introduction to all the above raags is expected.
Raags · राग:
- In Jaunpuri, Malkauns, Hameer, Patdeep, Tilang, Deskar and Kalingada: one dhrupad, one dhamar (with dugun and chaugun), one tarana, and one bandish in drut Ektaal — four compositions in all.
- Instrumental students will prepare the same number of gats in various taals, suited to their instrument.
- The distribution should ensure that compositions in every prescribed raag are memorised.
- A bhajan, folk song or dhun is also to be taught.
Taal Knowledge (Rhythm) · ताल-ज्ञान
Reciting the thekas of Jhumra, Vilambit Ektaal, Tilwada, Dhamar and Sooltaal with hand claps, and rendering them in dugun. Practice of dugun, tigun and chaugun in all previously learned taals.
