A journey through generations of musical heritage
Music didn't just enter my life—it was already there, woven into my family, my memories, and my earliest sense of self.
A Legacy of Music
My musical roots stretch back generations. My great-grandfather, Late Pt. Raghunath Kelkar, was an eminent musician who ran a respected music school in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The atmosphere of music, discipline, and devotion in my family made singing feel as natural as breathing.
One of my most vivid childhood memories is sitting on the temple staircase at the age of three or four, beside my grandfather, Late Shri Dattatreya Kelkar. With immense patience and love, he introduced me to the first notes of Indian music—Sa, Re, Ga, Ma. Those moments, simple yet profound, became the foundation of everything that followed.
My grandmother, Late Smt. Kamal Kelkar, was herself a trained musician. She nurtured my early interest in music, encouraging me to practice daily and instilling in me a deep love for this art form.
The Gurus: Shaping My Gayaki
As I grew older, music became more than a childhood interest—it became my life's path.
I began formal training under Late Pt. Moroney Guruji, and by the age of ten, I found my guiding light in my most loving and caring Guru, Late Surmani Kusum Chafale aaji. She shaped not only my technique but my musical identity, values, and depth of expression.
I have continued to refine my art under the guidance of eminent mentors:
- Late Keshavrao Rajhans sir
- Rajhans Madam
- Mrs. Vandana Deodhar Tai
"For me, music has never been a phase—it has been lifelong companionship."

My Philosophy: Art, Life, and Devotion
"Every human being should have an art (kala)—something that nourishes the heart, mind, and soul."
(कला)
Indian classical music, whether Hindustani or Carnatic, is far more than just lyrics or melody. It is a living heritage—an unbroken tradition passed through generations, constantly evolving yet deeply rooted.
To me, Indian music is a profound way of experiencing, expressing, and exploring life itself—with sensitivity, awareness, and devotion.
